Every year workplaces, schools, early learning services, community groups, reconciliation groups, and people right across the country host a whole range of activities and events during National Reconciliation Week (NRW).
Check out the events below and see how you can mark NRW at an event near you.
The dates for NRW are the same each year; 27 May to 3 June.
Please note: the events posted below are not the responsibility of Reconciliation Australia. If you have any questions regarding an event, please contact the organisers.
Join us at Sandringham library for an intergenerational Yarn, a traditional storytelling session with Wanyara, a First Nations’ organization committed to cultural education, founded by Sarai Roe, a proud Yorta Yorta and Wurundjeri woman.
Stories are the expression of First Nations’ culture and land. Important communications and histories have been carried across history via various mediums such as message sticks, rock and sand art, body painting, song, dance and carvings. Nowadays, more contemporary histories and events are often expressed through visual and performing arts.
Though there are many different types of stories, they tend to fall into four broad categories: collective histories, spiritual narratives, cultural practices and life histories. Wanyara story sessions explore these different types of stories drawing from both traditional and more modern approaches.
